is it because they feel threatened by the spanish language because it has 5 words for each one english word to convey the same message or mean the same thing? one note: if one learns spanish one will automatically understand its culture & be able to compete for bilingual job requirements, thus you hit three birds with one stone. isnt that a triple asset? keeping in mind that spanish is here to stay (it is not going elsewhere).

Can anyone name some good pop Spanish songs that I could listen to?
Filed Under Learn Spanish Words | 7 Comments
I am trying to improve my Spanish so I was hoping I could start listening to more music and memorize lyrics and learn what the words meant but it would be easier with songs that I like. Some of my favorite Spanish artists
are Belinda, Reik, and David Bisbal but the songs dont have to be by them.

How is the Spanish of northern Mexico different from the Spanish of the rest of the country?
Filed Under Learn Spanish Words | 6 Comments
I am planning to visit northern Mexico later this year and am learning the Mexican dialect of Spanish for that reason. Can someone tell me what are the main differences between the Spanish of northern Mexico (e.g., Monterrey) and the Spanish spoken in the rest of Mexico?
Also, I have come across the following words for “boy” in Spanish:
Muchaho
Chamaco
Chavo
Chico
Nino
What I want to know is, which of the above words is the most commonly used in Monterrey or northern Mexico?

I’m currently learning Spanish and to keep it in practice (since no-one near me speaks Spanish) I have decided to give my pet cats Spanish nicknames. One of my cats, Poppy already has a Spanish nickname: Amapola. I’ve heard it means “poppy” in Spanish. I’m wondering if it actually does mean that.
I need a name for my oldest cat. She’s a female and feisty and playful. I want a Spanish name that means something along the lines of that.
For my other cat, Socks. I was wondering if there was a Spanish word for socks which is not too long or complicated. If not, then she is a shy, skinny cat that always hisses but is very vigilant.
Thanks for your help!
Thanks for all your answers so far. Could anyone add any names that mean fiery or fiesty? That type of thing
